The 2024 FIS Alpine World Ski Championship started on 4th February and ended on 17th February 2024. It took place in “Are, Sweden”. There were 11 events in total. This championship was first launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts, soon it was backed by the International Ski Federation president Marc Hodler, and became an official FIS event in 1967. The very first World Cup Ski Race took place in Berchtesgaden, in the West of Germany, on January 5th, 1967. This event attracted a large number of people from all over the world.
Rules
There are 4 disciplines in the championship;
- Slalom
- Giant slalom
- Super-G
- Downhill
- Combined ( this event employs the downhill and slalom)
- All the competitors try to achieve the best time in all of the above-mentioned disciplines.
- For every race, points are awarded to the top 30 finishers. (Winner=100 points, second=60 points, third= 60 points)
- The player with the most points at the end of the season wins the cup.
- The trophy is a 9kg Crystal Globe.
