Andor has quickly become a standout on Disney Plus, often praised as one of the best Star Wars shows yet. It’s earned acclaim from critics, built a huge fan following, and even snagged multiple Emmy nominations. Now, with anticipation building, we’re finally looking forward to the series’ second—and final—season.
Tony Gilroy, the show’s creator, always envisioned Andor as a two-season story that would lead directly into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This next season will bring Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, right up to his introduction in Rogue One. As we gear up for Season 2, here’s everything we know so far.
Release Date for Andor Season 2
We finally have a release date! Andor season 2 is scheduled to hit Disney Plus on April 22, 2025. Although it was originally expected in late 2024, production delays from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes pushed it back. Filming for the 12-episode season began in November 2022 and even continued for a bit after the writers went on strike, but work was ultimately paused when actors joined the strike in July 2023.
So while we’ll have to wait a bit longer for Andor, Disney Plus will fill the gap with Skeleton Crew, which is expected to drop in December 2024.
Returning and New Cast Members
Disney hasn’t released an official cast list, so we don’t know exactly who’s returning or joining the show. But we can expect the main cast to include:
- Diego Luna as Cassian Andor
- Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, a rebel operative
- Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, an undercover Rebel sympathizer
- Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, a corporate security officer still after Andor
- Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, an Imperial officer
- Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Andor’s friend and ally
- Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, Andor’s smart-mouthed reprogrammed droid
In recent interviews, Luna hinted that this season would be special for Rogue One fans, suggesting that familiar characters from the prequel film might make appearances. Director Alonso Ruizpalacios, who helmed the final three episodes of the season, also dropped a hint that Ben Mendelsohn’s character, Orson Krennic, may return. Entertainment Weekly later confirmed that Alan Tudyk’s droid K-2SO would also be back, adding some levity to Andor‘s darker tone. Rumors are also swirling that Andy Serkis could reprise his role as Kino Loy.
Andor Season 2 Plot Details
So far, details on the season 2 storyline are scarce. A teaser was shown during the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, but it hasn’t been released to the public. Reports from the event described scenes of Andor on undercover missions, a reunion with Bix Caleen, and Syril Karn doubling down on his hunt for Andor. Rebel characters Vel Sartha and Cinta Kaz may also face high stakes as they find themselves behind enemy lines.
According to Gilroy, season 2 will cover four years of Cassian Andor’s life, leading right up to Rogue One. This will involve time jumps, with each three-episode arc spanning a single year in Cassian’s journey. Gilroy described it as, “Literally like a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday… then we’ll jump a year, and then it’ll be four or five days, and then we’ll jump a year.”
Adria Arjona, who plays Bix, said that this time-jump approach added new depth to her character’s development. She noted the challenge of portraying subtle changes in Bix over such a long span of time.
How Andor Season 2 Complements Rogue One
Luna has mentioned that season 2 will reframe Rogue One in a new light, giving fans a deeper understanding of Cassian’s journey and how he came to join the Rebel Alliance. Luna suggested that audiences may even want to rewatch Rogue One after Andor’s final season because they’ll see it from a different perspective.
Gilroy also explained that the second season will capture a darker, more mature side of the Star Wars universe, focusing on the challenges and intensity of life under an oppressive regime.
Final Thoughts on Andor Season 2
As the story builds toward Rogue One, Andor season 2 is set to dive even deeper into Cassian Andor’s character, giving fans a richer view of the Rebel Alliance. With fresh narrative techniques and beloved characters returning, fans have plenty of reasons to look forward to this thrilling final chapter.
Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to Andor‘s April 2025 release!
